Summary:
On Saturday night, tragedy struck as a 19-year-old teenage boy fell victim to a drive-by shooting outside his residence in Pelican Terrace, Dawncrest, Verulam, located on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast. The incident unfolded at approximately 7 pm, prompting a swift response from Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) after reports of the shooting surfaced.

Upon reaching the scene, Reaction Officers were confronted with a grim sight β the young male, shot multiple times, had succumbed to his injuries before any first responders could offer assistance. Compounding the tragedy, the victim's mother had also been targeted, sustaining multiple gunshot wounds to her leg.
She was promptly transported to the hospital via private means for urgent medical attention, according to Prem Balram, the head of RUSA.
Balram revealed that the assailants, two unidentified men, had entered the victim's yard, unleashing a hail of bullets on both the mother and son. The motivation behind the brutal attack remained elusive, adding an extra layer of complexity to the investigation.
Verulam SA Police Service is actively probing the case, with Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala, the provincial police spokesperson, disclosing that charges of murder and attempted murder are under scrutiny. The 19-year-old lost his life, and his mother, fortunate to survive the attack, is undergoing medical treatment.
The motive behind this appalling act of violence continues to baffle authorities, heightening the urgency of the investigation.
As the community grappled with this senseless act, law enforcement had yet to apprehend any suspects related to the drive-by shooting, leaving the investigation open-ended and the perpetrators at large.
Tragically, this was not an isolated incident over the weekend in the KwaZulu-Natal region. In Durban, specifically on Radcliffe Road in the Montclair area, another shooting incident unfolded. ALS Paramedics, responding to multiple distress calls, arrived at the scene to find three men in a vehicle.
Regrettably, two of the men, believed to be in their thirties, had sustained fatal gunshot wounds across their bodies. They were pronounced dead at the scene, painting a somber picture of the violence that transpired. The third individual, also in his thirties, faced critical injuries from multiple gunshot wounds and required immediate medical attention.
Paramedics swiftly rushed him to the hospital, battling to stabilize his condition. The dual tragedies underscored the prevailing menace of gun violence in the region, prompting concerns among residents and authorities alike. The investigations into both incidents are ongoing, with the hope that justice will be served for the victims and their grieving families.
