Expressing his condolences, Allen lamented the fatal shooting in Site C, Khayelitsha, revealing that the officer's friend also fell victim to the attack. Both individuals succumbed to their injuries while receiving medical care at the hospital. Allen extended his sympathies to the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased officer and his companion.

The MEC highlighted the somber reality that yet another police officer had lost their life in such a tragic manner. This incident unfolded against the backdrop of the recent commemoration of National Police Day, observed on Sunday. Allen emphasized that this day serves not only as an opportunity for police officers to engage in self-reflection but also as a moment to acknowledge and appreciate their crucial role in serving, protecting citizens, and upholding the law.

Drawing attention to the broader context, Allen disclosed that between July and September of the preceding year, seven off-duty police officers had met untimely deaths. Currently, the SAPS is actively pursuing three unidentified male suspects who managed to escape on foot. Allen urged individuals with relevant information to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to facilitate the swift apprehension of the perpetrators.

In a firm stance, Allen emphasized that any assault on a law enforcement officer, including those from the SAPS, should be viewed as an attack on the State. He underscored the vital role these men and women play as defenders of the country's laws and asserted that those responsible for such heinous acts should face appropriate penalties.

As of now, the motive behind the attack remains unknown, and Allen underscored the ongoing investigation into the double murder, stating that the motive is subject to further scrutiny. The provincial police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie, corroborated the launch of a comprehensive investigation into the tragic incident.
